seessaw is a shared exploration with artist Christopher Albert, my partner in art, life, and love. Chris created a series of sculptural masks from discarded materials, designed to obscure his face or, at times, cover larger parts of his body. I first photographed these masks digitally for his Christmask Advent calendar project in December 2024. You can view the full series and his project description here.
A few months later, when the weather warmed enough to work comfortably with wet-plate chemicals, we revisited the masks—at least those that survived the winter. I photographed Chris again, this time using the tintype process. We worked in our yard, a space he takes great pride in, and which became a quiet backdrop and collaborator in its own right.
